Modernising a High-Traffic Trading Membership Platform

Robot Wealth needed a faster, cleaner website. The existing platform had accumulated serious technical debt, an outdated design, and more than 150 active plugins. The rebuild focused on stripping back the system, improving performance, and delivering a conversion-focused design on a stable, maintainable foundation.

About the Project

Robot Wealth is a membership platform for traders, providing advanced tools, techniques, and strategies. The founder approached me with a site that had grown unwieldy over time. Visually it was outdated. Technically it was overloaded. Performance was a problem in both the frontend and the admin.

My role covered the full scope: audit, design, and development. The priority was performance first, then conversion, then long-term maintainability.

The Challenge

The site was running over 150 plugins. Many had not been reviewed in years. Each one added overhead, created compatibility risk, and slowed both the frontend and the admin. The design had not kept pace with the business, and navigation across top-level pages was unclear.

For a monetised membership platform, performance is not just a technical metric. Slow load times and poor usability directly affect sign-up rates. The rebuild needed to address both the structural and the visual problems without disrupting an active site.

  • 150+ plugins creating complexity and performance drag
  • Outdated, inconsistent design across key pages
  • Slow load times affecting both frontend and admin
  • Navigation structure unclear for new and returning visitors
  • No reusable component system for future development

The Approach

The project began with a full audit before any design or development work started. Understanding the system in detail was the only way to rebuild it efficiently.

1

Full Site Audit

I reviewed the complete sitemap and page hierarchy, assessed every plugin for necessity and overlap, identified performance bottlenecks, and documented repeated layout patterns. This audit created a clear blueprint for what to keep, what to remove, and what to rebuild.

2

Strategic Page Design

With the structure mapped, I designed the core pages that form the user journey. This included landing pages, membership conversion pages, and improved navigation. The design focused on visual hierarchy, clarity, and guiding users toward membership actions.

3

Component-Based Development

The site was rebuilt using GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks. Reusable block patterns were built first, including call-to-action sections, card layouts, content blocks, and button systems. Building the component library before individual pages ensured consistency across the entire site.

4

Performance Validation

Before and after PageSpeed scores were used to validate the improvements. Plugin count was reduced by more than half. Frontend load times improved measurably. The admin became faster and more stable as a direct result of the reduced plugin overhead.

The Outcome

A faster, more maintainable platform

  • Plugin count cut by more than 50 percent
  • Measurable frontend performance improvements validated by PageSpeed Insights
  • Faster admin and backend experience
  • Modern, focused design aligned with membership conversion
  • Clearer navigation across all top-level pages
  • Reusable component system that makes future development faster and safer

The rebuilt system supports the platform’s ongoing growth without the instability or overhead that had accumulated over time. New pages and sections can be added quickly using the existing component library without introducing new technical debt.
