Designing a Visual Identity Inspired by Landscape, Culture, and Movement

Altea Retreats is a yoga retreat experience set along the coast, combining local culture, food, and daily yoga sessions. This project focused on creating a distinctive visual identity and marketing system that captures the atmosphere of the location and attracts participants through design-led storytelling.

About the Project

Altea Retreats is a locally organised yoga retreat offering a four-day experience that combines yoga, cultural exploration, food, and time by the sea. The retreat is set in a visually rich environment, with a historic town centre and distinctive coastal landmarks.

The project focused on building a brand identity and digital design system that reflects the atmosphere of the retreat while supporting marketing efforts and attracting new participants.

The Challenge

The main challenge was translating a location-based experience into a visual identity that feels both distinctive and aligned with the retreat’s atmosphere.

The Approach

The approach focused on drawing directly from the physical environment and cultural context of the retreat. Each design decision was grounded in real-world references, from landscape and architecture to local materials and patterns.

Logo Concept and Direction

Developed the logo using the local skyline as a foundation. A simplified silhouette was created to capture key landmarks, including the historic centre and surrounding coastal features. A continuous line was used to unify the skyline into a clean, recognisable mark.

Colour and Visual Language

Defined the colour palette using tones inspired by the sea and coastal environment. These were combined with softer, natural hues to reflect the retreat’s calm and restorative atmosphere.

Pattern and Texture Influence

Introduced pattern elements inspired by local textiles, particularly traditional rug designs from nearby regions. These patterns were adapted into subtle graphic elements used across digital assets.

Marketing Asset Design

Created social media templates for platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, including posts and stories. These templates allowed for consistent marketing output while remaining easy to update.

Landing Page Design

Designed a landing page to support the promotion of the retreat. The layout focused on visual storytelling, highlighting the experience, location, and key benefits while guiding users toward booking.

 

The Outcome

The final result is a cohesive visual identity and marketing system that reflects the character of the retreat and supports its promotion.

The logo provides a strong connection to place, while the colour palette and patterns create a consistent and recognisable aesthetic across all touchpoints. Social media templates and landing page design enable ongoing marketing efforts without requiring constant redesign.

The overall system helps communicate the value of the retreat clearly, making it easier to attract and convert potential participants through design.
